Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I study with The Wedding Planner School?

There are so many reasons they deserve a page of their own. Click here for more info.

What qualification will I get on completing a course?

You will receive an accredited diploma in Wedding Planning, Event Management or Wedding & Event Management depending on the course you have taken. The levels are Foundation (I), Intermediate (II) and Advanced (III).

Are these recognised qualifications?

The diplomas are accredited by the Internatiional Association for Distance Learning and are recognised by the majority of employers and clients in the UK and throughout Europe where many of our correspondence students are based. Graduates are entitled to state the qualification on CVs and business literature. Some students use their tutor as an academic referee on CVs and you are entitled to put a link on the student updates page of our website.

Are you a well known organisation?

Yes, we are promoted via Learn Direct, the National Learning Register, the BBC website and The Learning & Skills Council amongst many others. See us giving course advice on several sky TV channels, many local BBC radio stations and wedding magazines. We are in liaison with some TV production companies about filming the experiences of our trainees for broadcast on Terrestrial channels. We regularly correspond with venues and suppliers to keep each other abreast of skill requirements. Our accreditation is based on learning, and we are a Fully-Accredited Member of the International Association for Distance Learning.

Can you help me to get work experience?

Yes. Work experience in the Wedding industry is incredibly competitive and very rare, but the WPS will look for it on our students' behalf and offer it to all students where available. Work experience at a live wedding or event costs £199 for non-students to cover your insurance, and a nominal fee for WPS students & graduates (usually £10-£75). Please enquire for more info.

Do I have to attend a taught course AND do the correspondence course?

No, you can study both levels 1 & 2 from home, or do both in the classroom. You are allowed to mix them up for optimum benefit, but if you prefer to stick to just one format that is acceptable and you won't miss out on anything. If you just want to study one level, that is fine too.

Which courses do you recommend?

In our opinion, if you want maximum benefit apply for the home study foundation correspondence course first followed by an intermediate taught course (This way gives depth, breadth and works out cheaper too). If possible, you should punctuate your studies with practical work experience. Only after a period of business growth & development do we recommend you apply for the advanced level.

Do I have to do all of the levels?

No. The majority of students complete the foundation & intermediate certificates in the way described above; this takes about 12 months if done part-time or less if done fuller time, and then they wait a few years before attempting the advanced level. Many come for 'refreshers' on the lower levels rather than take the advanced course. Those who hold the highest level are few and far between.

When I have completed the course can you help me in my career?

Yes, we keep in touch with old students and produce a twice-yearly newsletter featuring event companies, new and old, and we continually work to improve the standards of wedding planning in the UK. If recruiters contact us looking for job candidates we will gladly forward information to you. We will never share your details with an outside organisation without permission. Ultimately the onus is on you to actively find employment if that is what you want, but if you want to direct your potential employer to us so we can explain what you did to gain your qualification, we are happy to talk to them.

All graduates are encouraged to display a free link on the updates page to help promote themselves & their businesses.

Can I pay in instalments to help spread the cost?

Yes, like any academic institution our interest is in the welfare of our students so tuition fees can be paid in instalments to make it easier:

- The correspondence course may be paid in up to 4 installments by cheque, card or standing order -- see application form for details or click here for an easy-to-use standing order form. For more information about how paying by instalment works click the link.

- Taught courses require £95 deposit paid on application, balance due 30 days before the event In extreme circumstances we may be able to agree other terms. Please enquire.

Please note that the fees for the weekend course and the correspondence course are strictly non refundable under any circumstances, including ill health or bereavement. There is no cancellation period unless special terms are given to you in writing by a member of staff.

If you have any other questions or would like to discuss your options please contact our admin team stating your full name & postal address and someone will reply to your message within 48 hours on working days.
